About Rock In Chicago

Rock in Chicago brings the best of independent and up and coming artists in the Chicago area covering all flavors of Rock, Punk and Heavy Metal.

Rock in Chicago curates 90-minute monthly genre-focused playlists on Spotify and YouTube of up-and-coming original music from Chicago’s rock, punk, and metal underground scenes. We have a rotating list of guest curators from different facets of Chicago’s independent music scenes who also contribute or fully curate to genre-focused playlists.

We also feature a monthly First Fridays round up for artists who are releasing new music on Bandcamp, Soundcloud or have a new video they want to promote.

The Rock in Chicago Show will return as a podcast format later in 2021.

FAQS

So who is included in this area ?

The area we define as the Chicago area includes southeastern Wisconsin, Northeastern Illinois, and Northwest Indiana. If you are in a band and play anywhere within the 100 mile radius between Chicago and Kenosha, Rockford, DeKalb, Joliet, or South Bend, we want to know about it.

Who Are You?

At our core, we’re a group of musicians with many years of experience in the music industry. We firmly believe in the do-it-yourself work ethic, and are trying to do something different by helping build a music community in the Chicago area.

That said, this is a labor of love for all involved at this point, Many of us are active musicians, and dedicate what free time we have outside of our projects and our day jobs to helping out with curation, interviews, podcast production and news. We do not make any profit from the work we do, any thing we do sell, in the way of merchandise or promotional materials goes back to support Rock in Chicago.

How do I send you my stuff?

If you’re involved in Chicago’s local music scene and are interested in having your music featured or telling us your story, contact us through our submission page. Don’t DM us on social media.

We offer five areas to participate in:

  1. Genre-Focused playlists
These are curated by us internally based on an editorial calendar throughout the year. Which genre we build a list for is informed by that, our audience response and our submission queue. Often we will ask our featured artists to curate or co-curate a list if there’s a stylistic match.
  2. First Fridays New Music Roundups
If you are an artist with new music or video that has been released within the current calendar year, feel free to submit it. Must be available on a streaming platform. We cannot do anything with mp3s or CDs. Deadline is 11:59pm the Wednesday before the first Friday of the month. You are also welcome to include upcoming show info with your submission.
  3. New music premiere feature requests.
If you are dropping new music and have a story to go with it, feel free to submit there. These are carefully reviewed. Typically we encourage artists to submit for the First Fridays posts. You are also welcome to include upcoming show info with your submission.
  4. Podcast interview guest
Are you doing something to help our music community or do you have an interesting story behind your music? Feel free to submit.
  5. Monthly show announcement calendar posts.
We will drop a show announcement once a month, on the first of the month, beginning in August of 2021.
Send us your show announcement info via the form with your band info. Deadline is 11:59pm on the 25th of every month for the next month. No exceptions.

I sent you my stuff a few weeks ago, why didn’t you respond?

If you don’t submit your music through our submissions page, we aren’t going to review it.
We do review everything that comes through the submissions page.

We typically do one genre-focused playlist a month, and you may not be a match for the next list. We will get back to you when we do have a match.

We may have recently featured you on a previous First Friday and prioritize new submissions from other artists.
